Radiotherapy Photography Competition winners unveiled at the North West Cancer Centre

The 14 winning photographs were selected for display across specially installed panels in the two corridors leading to the Linac treatment rooms at the RVACC.
Radiotherapy colleagues recently welcomed the winners of the Radiotherapy Photography Competition to the North West Cancer Centre, Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry/Londonderry to see their winning photographs displayed within the Radiotherapy Department.
The competition was inspired by feedback from a service user who suggested that the radiotherapy corridors could benefit from more colour and visual interest.
In response, the photography competition initiative aimed to create a more welcoming, calming and therapeutic environment for patients attending radiotherapy treatment.
Members of the public and service users were invited to submit photographs showcasing local flora and fauna. The response was overwhelming, with a large number of high-quality entries received.

Following judging, 14 winning photographs were selected for display across specially installed panels in the two corridors leading to the Linac treatment rooms.
In addition, seven runner-up photographs have been retained for future use within the Centre.
The project reflects the North West Cancer Centre’s commitment to co-design and patient-centred care, demonstrating how meaningful service user involvement can positively influence healthcare environments and enhance the overall patient experience.
Speaking at the unveiling, Brian Telford, Vice-Chair of Western Trust said: “Thank you to everyone involved in this project. It has been a meaningful initiative and is a wonderful example of how service user involvement can help shape our services and contribute to a positive environmental transformation that will benefit patients for many years to come.”
Pat Shiels, Radiotherapy Services Manager, added: “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit photographs and congratulate the winners.
“The images are beautiful and provide a more uplifting experience for those attending treatment.”
