Robinson calls on Council to help secure community future for Courthouse

Establishing what interests exist, viables uses for the courthouse and what type of support is needed for a “sustainable future” of the courthouse is vital said Mr Robinson.
MLA Alan Robinson has called on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to work with local community organisations to ensure Limavady Courthouse does not become a “lost opportunity” for the town following the Justice Minister’s decision to permanently close and dispose of the building.
Mr Robinson has questioned the Justice Minister Naomi Long whether she would engage with the Council and local community organisations to explore options for community or cultural use before proceeding with disposal.
In her response, the Minister confirmed that opportunities within the public sector and through community asset transfer must be explored before disposal on the open market is considered.
Ms Long also said her Department would continue engaging with the Council and local organisations as the process progresses.
“Limavady Courthouse is a landmark building, and we need to make sure it has a positive future at the heart of our town,” Mr Robinson said.
