Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has taken the decision to close its public outdoor spaces as a precautionary measure to protect the safety of visitors and staff, with the Met Office advising the public to take extra care during periods of strong winds.

In light of the latest weather warning, which has been upgraded to amber from 9pm on Saturday evening, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has taken the decision to close its public outdoor spaces from 3pm on Saturday 24 October, as a precautionary measure to protect the safety of visitors and staff.

Spaces include, parks, play parks, harbours, pitches and beaches.

Sports and Leisure Centres will be assessed early on Sunday morning. Customers are advised to check the CCG app for the latest information regarding any closures before travelling.

The Met Office is advising the public to take extra care during periods of strong winds:

Avoid unnecessary travel where possible. If travel is essential, drive according to the conditions, be aware of high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and take additional care when overtaking.

Remain indoors where possible. If you do need to go outside, avoid walking or sheltering close to buildings, trees or other structures which may be affected by strong winds.

Secure loose items around your property, including bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.

Take particular care along the coast. Large waves can pose a significant risk, even from the shore. Keep away from cliff edges, be aware of your surroundings and keep dogs on leads. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Prepare for possible power cuts by ensuring you have torches, batteries, a mobile phone power bank and other essential items available.

We would advise the public not to walk along cliff paths, harbour piers, forest or woodland park areas during this period.

Residents and visitors are asked to continue to monitor the latest weather advice and to take appropriate precautions as conditions deteriorate.
