Opportunities are limited by availability of buses, says Ms Sugden.

East Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden has called for better public transport across the constituency, warning that proposed Translink service reductions could make it even harder for residents to access healthcare, education and employment in areas already poorly served.

Ms Sugden said: “For many people across East Londonderry, including Limavady and our rural communities, public transport simply isn't good enough.

“Older people can struggle to get to hospital appointments, students face difficulties travelling to university, and people of all ages can find their employment opportunities limited by the availability of buses. If you don't drive or have someone to give you a lift, your options can be very limited.

“We have excellent community transport organisations that do tremendous work, often stepping in to help people access essential services, but we cannot expect the voluntary sector to fill every gap.

“With Translink considering further reductions, I'm concerned about what this means for communities already struggling with poor connections. I've asked the Infrastructure Minister about service reliability, gaps in provision and future investment.

“We should be looking at how to make public transport work for more people, not leaving them with even fewer options.”
