Limavady Author Gerry Robinson Launches ‘Football Profiles’ in aid of Marie Curie
Past and present footballers joined together in Limavady for the launch of Gerry Robinson’s latest book.
The latest of Limavady author Gerry Robinson’s books on local footballing legends was launched on Friday 23 October at Café Steinbeck.
‘Football Profiles: Limavady and Beyond’ is the most recent in a series of books focusing on Limavady football of days gone by, with proceeds being raised for Marie Curie.
The launch proved a huge success with those who attended and enjoyed speeches from special guest, Dessie Loughery, formerly of Ballymena United.
Gerry shared that sales for the book had been an unprecedented success and football enthusiasts should act quickly to snap up remaining copies.
“True to form, the football stars shone for Marie Curie,” Gerry said.
“Reminiscing of glory days, our energy is our heartbeat and taught us to win with humility and lose with grace.”
The relaxed ambience of Café Steinbeck was the ideal setting for a gala night of football, with football fans from Limavady gathering to enjoy an evening of stories about their favourite sport.
Many local footballers of note attended and read first hand the details of their football achievements documented in the book.
The guests were treated to a fascinating speech from the ex Sky Blues and Coleraine player Dessie Loughery.
Dessie captivated the guests with his football stories and shared his experiences and thoughts on the present day game.
A new poem was introduced to the group, which featured the book’s many stars and Limavady United Chairman Geoff Ferris rounded off the evening with a thoughtful speech.
The book is selling fast and limited copies are available in Menarys and Café Steinbeck. Football Profiles is an ideal gift at £10 and all proceeds are in aid of Marie Curie.
Footballing fans from Limavady and surrounding area would be delighted to receive this volume as a Christmas gift, so don’t delay in purchasing as stocks are running low!
